Excelsior Installer helps you create installation packages for your Windows applications. It supports the most common installation scenario.

I got my free copy from www.freewarefiles.com search for "Excelsior Installer"Its a great looking website that ells all kinds of programms and some more, student, related stuff but the programms are pretty nice and range in all different prices.

You want to convert a hi polygon in a low polygon (to make your game run faster)?
http://gsculpt.sourceforge.net/index.phpl

I just tried it, there is video tutorials. Amazing. FREE. You will need something to convert your .obj into .x to put them in RAD. You can also change the quad into triangle.

The other software that dose that is 3d coat 150$. Blender do it too, but it is as usual not that straith forward.

Create your own animated sprites with FragMotion.
http://www.3drad.com/forum/index.php?action=post;board=5.0
- fragmotion can also paint texture on your model. Nice.
- Easy animation.
- It is the only software I know that you send andro in and will show you all his different animations. With other software you have to merge different .x to do it  :-\
- Export in .x

fragomotion.com 30$

FREE (NON-commercial) Vehicle, low poly.
Tank, train, truck, plane ...

----------------------

treemagik 50$ (make trees)
http://www.aliencodec.com/product_treemagik.php
Can export in .x and .3dr (so sketup should do it and export to 3dr)

Tried demo, nice tree in 1 minute, but can't export without buying.

Also plantmaker to make plant.

I know 3d rad dose that, but those pack export also billboard: 4 vertex tree, can save alot of cpu. Need to be tested.

Hi everyone
I found (after much looking) a program that converts Google Sketchup kmz files to .3DS. You can bypass this method by buying Sketchup Pro approx $295aud.

You can also import collada (.DAE) files which are what are inside the .KMZ file. To extract the .dae file you rename the .kmz file to .zip then open it and extract the collada file. It should also contain the textures.

The .3DS file then can be imported into other applications for editing.

The reason, I have never spent time trying to learn Sketchup I find it frustratingly slow. Also many models have faces facing the wrong way especially if you want to convert to a rigid body RigidBodys.

download early alpha if you're inpatient

is b2.5 going to be the end of all free/cheap modelling software?
i dont think so, but I'm sure it will be a very useful addition to every indie's toolset!

Before using 3dRad I was trying to make a game with blender, a disaster. They change alot from version to version. I am not use easy to use can goes with blender, there is so many options. You can learn for months and start to forget about the rest. As for modeling it is nice, and it export well in .x .Animation... their exporter is alot of pain for .x and it is why I just stop using blender for that, and use for now Fragmotion for animation.

What's new for v3.17:
  • New plugin: Google SketchUp importer.
  • New exponential zooming handles large scene models with ease.
  • All plugins now have a new .DLX extension for future compatibility.
  • The main program now accepts .U3D files passed to the commandline.
  • The installer now setups .U3D file associations.

I've used it for the last 5 years and yes it exports to .X perfectly
