thought i would go into a bit more detail of how my fruit machine will work. I'm basing it on my fav fruit machine of all time which is actually a machine from the 80's. Obvously i'm themeing it on the 70's but the basis will work like the tupenny nudger. Only difference i am going to make to the original is the nudges. I'm leaving out the nudges and replacing them with hold buttons instead. You will win holds by random and the amount of holds by random. Basically unlike the run of the mill slot machines you will be given a chance to gamble your winnings. Lets say you get 3 cherries you will win lets say 20 p. Then you will have lights flashing win or loose. You can either collect your winnings or gamble it. Once you get up to 1 and up you will then be guaranteed that much even if you loose the gamble! Simple.....

Cool - look forward to seeing how you put it all together hypokill.

Also - during lunch break because I'm sad - I put together a little trial funky 70's style music for my race game/menu today. I'm thinking I will use this on the menu/options screen mainly, but it may make it's way into being background for one or two of the races.

You can check it out at the link below..

The first link is a Construct 2 test you can feel free to play.

The music player underneath this is my test track - all comments welcome and appreciated. Just hit the play button and get your funky groove on...  :D

Yep, sorry. I don't take into consideration that people may check this stuff out on their phone.

Aaaahh well.

Look forward to hearing what you can do. Quick question - if music is an area where you are comfortable, why not base your game around 70's music that you could recreate or make yourself. I had an idea of doing a 70's music platform type game - where you had to find pieces of broken vinyl records on a level. Once you had all the pieces, it unlocked the album artwork, a history of the album, and the music to play in the background of the next level. Psychedelia would have featured heavily though - and it's not an art style I'm comfortable with (psikoT - looking at you to run with this... )

Thanks. I must be honest, I don't use anything too complex. I like to mix things up with the preset samples and instrument loops in Apple's Garageband software. I'd like to think I have a decent ear for music - but really all I've done is pop together a few pre-made loops.

I think it fits the game style and era though.  :)

it's complex enough for most! Yeah samples are easier then vst's but still what you make with them is your own. Thats what makes a game complete! Also well put together i must say :D

good idea, though im bit held up with my gcse project at the mo, but after nxt week, ill get on and start it!
upload of songs comming tonight.(hopefully!)     FYI, i use a keyboard, an ancient MIDI interface machine, and an applience used for recorduing it all together. some of my tracks have got about 11 layers in, so they should be fun to listen to!

quick question,  do the models in game HAVE to be own, or can i have some from the wahouse if i give credit to the makers. ???
« Reply #57 on: July 03, 2012, 04:08:53 AM »
I would say it would have to be your own redfox. I would appreciate seeing your own anyways :p its not about the quality of the game its about making it yourself in my opinion. Look at grim for instance he's impressed me with his own piece of music! Thats determination right there and thats whats going to make this compotition succeed. After all i don't care about winning i just wanted to support the compotion to succeed in finishing a game for myself while at the same time encouraging our fellow members to do the same. More importantly it looks like we are actually going to end up with a showcase of games to get stuck into. I have a feeling there will be a lot of trading of tips once we try each others games out. Also a little update. Got stuck in last night and got the best part of the design finished and started working on the animations. Really can't wait to get it playable as its starting to take shape.

With regards the models question - I will just say that it is likely it will affect the scoring.

Think of it like this - if the graphics aren't your own work, how can we score you on them?

Do bear in mind though that originality and playability will earn more points than graphics - so it is something that can be overcome if you have to use others models.

Yup, I agree with grim, and we judge.
for me gameplay and originality are very important
but  MOST important is to have fun and not get fixated on winning, just show what you can put together and take pride in what you've acheived
