Author Topic: 3D Rad is now FREEWARE!  (Read 17159 times)

« on: August 03, 2009, 06:01:41 AM »
3D Rad is now completely free to use for commercial and non-commercial purposes!

Development will continue as usual, hopefully at the same massive pace since 3D Rad v6 was released almost 3 years ago.

I want to thank all registered users who supported development when it was commercial, by purchasing their licenses. I strongly feel your money has been very well spent! I'm sure all users who now enjoy this excellent software free of charge are aware that nothing like 3D Rad would have been possible, without your substantial support. Thank You!

I am starting to get reply of people watching my post on the video game forum here is one:

"This is great news. A couple of my friends have been wanting to make a game for quite some time now. We were gonna put some money together and buy the cheaper PSP dev kit, but it's a good idea for us to start here with this free tool. Sweet stuff."

@ Fernando:

In the light of this decision, and in order to give comfort for your subscription based supporters to date, can you give the community weekly updates of new user dowloads ?

I suspect this would help some 'swallow the pill" a little easier, and certainly give a tactile sense of the growing community.

I would also suggest that you give some "special status' to the "few who have helped so many" here - Mike, Shadmar etc... It seems to me that their presence is really going to be needed if the newbies are to be kept onboard.

This is a new day for 3D Rad, a day of freedom and possibilities!
I'm very happy that i purchased the engine and that I'm a  part of this great community!

3D Rad will become greater and greater, and i really wish that it acquires Blender-kind of following!

You are welcome shadmar!

Public download stats for the installation file is a very nice idea, thanks wincoder! I'm going to look for PHP code for it. Suggestions are welcome!

As for our most helpful members I believe their status stands on its own and is very apparent to anyone browsing the forum. They do have their special status forever printed in the 'cloud'  :)

3D Rad is totally, genuinely freeware now  :)

Well as I payed my lisence rescently can I have a suggestion? Would be to have a 3th person shooter camera integrated to the Character object while the mouse mouve/joystick up/down. With a limit for up/down.
Or a script to do so.

Like in this post. http://www.3drad.com/forum/index.php?topic=2101.0

You are very welcome 3DSimulant, thank you for your support  :)

@asterix

The functionality you need isn't trivial. It could be achieved by setting camera location dynamically by using a script, but such a script would be pretty complex and resulting camera movements would not be as smooth as default CamChase object movements.

A way to achieve it by also preserving smooth camera movements would probably be an new internal parameter for the CamChase object allowing you to adjust camera altitude via scripting, run-time. This could be a proposed feature for the donation board (I'm going to start adding items very soon).
