Just install it over the other
1. You download
2. You open the donloaded and install it.

Good luck.

Freeware ?, Yes & No, if new development items are based on donations received and completed only when the target donations level is reached, that doesn't quite fit a "freeware" business model if funding is required to continue development ? :) .

It seems to me that the proper business model should be "DonationWare"  ? , I dont know really, but Freewear doesn't quite seem right if funding is involved still...... IMHO...

Also thanks for the text-imposter :)  -- iPrint(), will test later this evening :)

You are welcome shadmar!

In the light of this decision, and in order to give comfort for your subscription based supporters to date, can you give the community weekly updates of new user dowloads ?

Public download stats for the installation file is a very nice idea, thanks wincoder! I'm going to look for PHP code for it. Suggestions are welcome!

As for our most helpful members I believe their status stands on its own and is very apparent to anyone browsing the forum. They do have their special status forever printed in the 'cloud'  :)

What the compiler is NOW FREE TOO, you said it would be 99$. What ever.

3D Rad is totally, genuinely freeware now  :)

I agree with you TinSoldier. It's none of my business how all this is canned - but "Donationware" does seem to fit the bill better. I'm a grammer Nazi too  ;D

WOOHOO!!!! ;D
I've been waiting a year to get some money to buy this thing and now it's free! thank you fernando! ;D

Only free for the lucky few  I'm afraid - and I figure it's going to get a lot more expensive for those who have predicted/invested their future with this engine ....

Look at it from another perspective... the donors are actually partners... so if you're serious about your project, you'll pay Fernando as an engine programmer for your game... and who is a better choice than the engine developer himself... and if $150~$200~$300 is too much for some, let me tell you, that, for example i charge between 200 and 300 usd for a single flash banner (with 3 resizes)... and that's not expensive for my clients.

Thats a steep price for a hobbyist I'm afraid... but I agree that funding direct development  seems like a smart way to go about it...Look at it like this,  whoever the most active donors are,  will effectively steer the development...It's almost evil...(But I like it)

Besides,  Like many here I was purchasing individual objects  back when v6 first came out.   So all in all I have gotten a lot out of my initial investment...

WTF is wrong with this forum...  In many other commercial products... You only get a one year license... If the version of your software updates in that time,  you only get a discount on a new license... Fernando has promised and provided prompt and free monthly updates since the inception of version 6.

In case you guys haven't noticed, this type of thing is a growing trend with software, namely because it is successful... Many of us have an xbox, but don't mind paying up to 10 bucks per month for a membership,  then we gladly buy DLC, and community games without flinching.

If you have an iphone, how much per month do you spend on apps?

You see the growing trend is for developers to create a platform to generate additional interest and support, its not a trap, or bad business...Its a way for a developer to directly and precisely meet the demands of its customers...

Considering 3drad bucked the old trend in software development, but providing timely free updates for several years,  I think this is a positive step towards a new trend that wont be going away anytime soon hopefully...

I don't get the gripe

I still think that a subscription based system would have been a better solution to the donation system. Those who subsribe would effectively be donating. The difference is that for those who don't subsribe, they simply don't get the updates, which I think is the fairest way to do this! You want updates, you pay for the subscription. Simple.

Nobody is bitchin about it being free. Some people are just concerned how this will affect future updates with new features etc, ie where the development money is going to come from.
