I have always meant to get 3DRad but never had the cash spare, now at last I have it.
I still think that you could have charged for it, even $1 to download it would have given you some income, or maybe you could have a part of the forum that is only available to paying members, say $20 lifetime access to the private members area, this area could have free resources such as models, sounds etc..
But then again the decision to make it freeware could result in 3DRad expolding on the internet and Microsoft end up paying you $millions to buy it from you.

Good luck with it and I hope it works out for you.
I am 1 new user since you made it free.
Also getting in touch with computer magazines to get 3DRad on the coverdisc would be a good idea.

Look into my eyes , Tell me what you see
You don't see a damn thing , 'cause you can't relate to me
You're blinded by our differences , My life makes no sense to you

Might been discussed already but.. will 3dRad have a monthly update now or just a release when funded features are developed and tested?

shadmar

i can see your point

it seems to me the 5 or 6 'pros' on here (including your goodself) may be happy with what they have already. one of mikes previous postings made his own views on donations clear.

seems to me that either fernando has the patience of an angel waiting to build a strong user/donator base to pay for 'donated' updates, or, if monthly systematic updates are going to happen as you ask, there possibly needs to be one regular (big) donator just keeping things ticking over to attract new users with a better 3Drad month on month.

im really, really new to this, but i can already see the potential in it. the problem is that everybody has their own thing. clandestine for example is very art orientated, mike very script orientated, ulogix a bit of both (as far as i can see). if you multiply that by a community base of say 1000 you start to get a scale of the problem.

what about a v7 released on a monthly subscription that pays for regular monthly updates on the back of requests already made and obvious future needs, and a v6 version that remains a freeware with only donated updates?

i'm too young to know anything about business, but i do know that somebody has to pay somewhere if a business is to survive. but as i said on a previous posting - there's not a lot of love being thrown at the donation board right now - its a little worrying  :'(

hey - im just happy to have this free to be honest  8)

peace

Fernando has said that he will be exploring other revenue generating avenues later, but at the moment he apparently wants to focus on the donations side of things.

ps. I'm definately not reall art orientated - I'm object orientated (excuse the pun) :)

There will be a monthly update every month as usual. Of course if nothing new has been developed the monthly update will be skipped. But it seems there will be a lot of new features in the September 2009 update, if you look at how much love (as kanm said) has been thrown to the donation board  :)

hey fernando - if youre confident thats enough for me  8)

hope to be able to help next month with a small something. my dad has promised me cash instead of going home to india this year. i'll throw in whatever i can (id still like a phychadelic flower object though that fires groovy flowers out of rifles and tanks and subs instead of bullets and shells and missiles  8)   8) )

peace

So far 13 donors have donated over $2000 in total (if my calculations are correct). That's pretty good going if you ask me!!!

Just think what would be possible to achieve with hundreds (or even thousands) of donors.

I gotta say, I feel like a bit of a leach getting 3D Rad for nothing and then sitting by while more and more improvments are implamented on someone elses dollar.
But if it didn't become free when it did, I would probably still be months away from having it due to my current financial and health situation. I was able to enjoy and learn so much for the 2 weeks or so I was home before coming back to the hospital, but as soon as things get sorted out I'll try to make up for it!
