Confused.. models were from FPSC and the scene was made in Unity but it could be done in Rad if we paid you? I think a little about the challenge got lost in translation somewhere but never mind

anyway.... not had any free time for this one I'm afraid so I didn't get past making the first texture... maybe next time

Heat - looks good, a real step up from the last one

nice looking scene Heat...  nice details...
but the example was a daytime scene... and it was a lil more than an alley...

would be interesting to see  this in daytime, and with a lil more "stuff"...

also...

what say we run the Outdoor Challenge to mid week... this wednesday, ok...
so everyone will have a good chance to get involved...

i'm currently reviving the multi-player community project... while attempting to
refine the walk animation i screwed it up... that's what i get for not commenting,
but i can go back to the last major revision and work forward...

doing that today... also,  trying to make a astronaut that is not dependent on andro (like the soldier thing i did)
the last one was basically the same thing, like the soldier, but with astro pieces connected to
andros  bones...

Cyper... i'm gonna just ignore him... he'll find some twisted logic to explain his delusions... he's already convinced himself that that is "his" work... some people need that kind of validation. i suppose...

i think everyone else understood the true purpose of the Challenge... there's always gonna be "one" though...

Hi everyone I have a late entry.

I am not hiding the fact the models come from Google 3d Warehouse but have gone through much modification to separate the materiel components to allow me to set bump map separately.

Hey just a question but what software do you guys use to make your models?  I want to make some models of my own.
Lego enthusiast, 3d game developer, and animator.

sorry i haven't been able to post up anything yet... last week was a mess, real life taking up
all my time... court stuff that needs to be perfected... but the week wound up ending nicely...
i saw the President and had a few words with former NY Gov Patterson at the NY NAN rallye
fri night...

today was the first chance i had to get back to 3drad stuff...  late today...

i did some work on a getting better community project astronaut, so we can get that back on track...
(before it fades away and dies of lack of interest :)   )

i'll try to finish up my contribution and post it tomorrow...

just one observation... and a question i'd like to thow out to everyone...

the screenies i'm seeing are really first class stuff... like they came form a
real computer game...
sooo....

why hasn't anyone been able to get a real good one done yet...
what's stopping us from getting a solid game at least half way started in Rad...

i mean... we've got several first rate examples of some scenery (the outdoor and the indoor hallway)...
surely if the people at Frictional Software could start an episode in a ships cabin, surely we could come
up with an idea for the first level of a game  to start in a hallway... or in one of the outdoor scenes i'm
seeing recently...

input here... any ideas... rambling thoughts... whatever ya got...

My apologies too for abandoning this, had a very hectic real life and am on a Unity project roll which I can't break for fear of loss of momentum

my rambling thoughts on Mike's last comments...

There are a few skillsets required for making a great game in RAD as I see it (not exhaustive)

Visionary idea forming
3D graphic creation
2D graphic creation
Coding and optimization
Sound engineering
Management and organisation
Ability to react to change/critisism/limitations without throwing in the towel

Few people in the world have all these and the time to utilize them all which is why few games come from solo devs (even Fourdee has now enlisted others for TRZero)

Team projects are the best option but personality/vision clashes are a difficult thing to overcome
There are all the skills on the forum to produce something great, but not the organisation/discipline to do it - if that can be overcome then something great will happen
I believe there is a core of cooperation forming here these days and if a project leader could be elected and responsibilities defined you could achieve something great
I also believe the forum is a more harmonious place since my departure so with that in mind I will again take my leave and only pop in occasionally to say hello and make the odd (non disruptive) post... I'll always be keeping an eye on all your great works though ;)

completely agreeing with the two posts above. Rad is a fantastic piece of software and amazingly easy but when it comes to getting games down, too many projects are started with amazing ideas and prospects but because of the solo developer it is way to much work to take on to put together yourself and only done by yourself.  When it comes to teams of community i reckon too many people have a separate idea of what the project should be when its done. This is where the gdd comes in. imo the gdd is the most important part of making a game wether solo or teamed but i think this gets over looked. so as the post above states. A set team leader just to keep the project on track and make sure things don't stray too far off track.  Id love to be part of a team so if someone thinks of getting something going properly you can put my name down. (just my 2 cents.
