Author Topic: Modeling - Sphere Modeling  (Read 1152 times)

« on: October 02, 2013, 02:43:20 PM »
Hello everyone,
I am trying to model around a sphere, however i am unsure how to. I am currently trying to model a sphere based drone kind of like the one from oblivion the movie(if you've seen it) but i can't model shapes onto the sphere so i have currently made a pattern from the contours that are already there. I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas as to how it could be done.
BTW - I haven't been able to find any low poly drone models so i came here for help.
Here are my attempts:

If someone can help me or make a model then it would be great! (I used google sketch-up, but i would like to use blender or i could try Hexagon)

Thanks

First off i use 3dsmax

I would use the extrude function to "pull" the faces up, then maybe move the faces around if needed.

Or you could use Boolean functions to extract shapes from other shapes to get an end shape to work with..

that's a couple different ways i would do it..

you could creat custom faces & vertise's

and i have seen oblivion :)

I forgot to mention that with my computer graphics etc. I couldn't get 3dsmax to work :( . So that's not fair because i know that 3dsmax is an amazing modeling software and animation software.
(Oblivion is a great film...)

If you could get sculptris to work, you could sculpt up the polygons you need, then use some of the other tools to flatten it out. Then you could iron out the kinks in SketchUp or something.

Have you tried this
add -h to command line to set the default graphics mode.
once you have the mode set, just remove the -h parameter.

other than that, i cant see why it wont work.

PlayDasher RE: http://www.3dfoundry.tk/forum/index.php

I don't know whats going on there at that forum, but there are 0 registered users, i was able to create an account after 6 trys.

Then for an unknown reason, my account username showed as blank in firefox's password utitlity.

When i tried to log in, i get an invalid password message.

I'm glad i didn't enter any valid email, or reuse any passwords on it's reregistration page.

I can only think this is a spammed web forum or something where the password you enter and username are collected and used to hack your accounts on the web.

I would remove this link from your profile until the web forum creator fix's the issues ( if it's actually a valid forum ).

Hey Play dasher, I looked at the drone.

What difficulties are you encountering making the model?
I might be able to make a drone for you, Just explain what you want it to look like..

(I Actually found this http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=8dd1a9b3d7349011c254add72c487200 It's not mine, but look at it, it might help)

PS RE: foundry.tk

I also tried the password reset option on the forum, with a valid email, the forum recognized it, and told me it sent a password reset email, still waiting, been 20 plus minutes so far or more, no email received yet!.

I don't see why it's not working. I downloaded the forum script directly from simple machines. And set it up about a month ago.
BTW - I tried registering an account and it worked with no errors. So I don't know what is wrong.

The difficulty is that i can't model shapes onto the sphere 3d model.

I would appreciate it if you could help me model one.I'm kinda looking for the one like in oblivion with gun(s) on the side and a camera(eye) at the front.

I also found that sketchup warehouse model of the oblivion drone but didn't know what to do with it.

Thanks

There are a lot of tutorials on modeling in sketchup, I just know how to model from testing.
