Author Topic: YAY!! No More FBF Anims, No More Character Rigging!!  (Read 1484 times)

« on: May 02, 2012, 06:54:42 PM »
the problems...
there are manyu...

1- i can't rig a model to save my life in either fragmotion or pacemaker...
2- i can't seem to get decent character movements in either...
3- FBF animations seem to be slowing RAD down a lot... especially if you have lots of frames or lots of FBF objects...
4- FBF animated objects seem to take a lot longer (depending on the number of frames in the object) to load than bone based objects... with boned animated objects you're not loading many copies of the same mesh, just one...

the solution...
simple... don't use fraggy or pacemaker and don't use FBF animations...

the answer to my prayers...
TrueSpace...

with Trusepace i can make animations using the KeyFrame Editor (just like stop motion animation used by claymation artists), and when i save em the bones are created with the animations...

when imported into rad, they act just like bone based animations...

i just discovered this when trying to figure out why the destructibles in the tank demo slowed rad down so much... this should solve the problem... i hope...

i might give this a shot when i get home! Sounds cool Mike! Wish you luck with your game! Btw, is it difficult or clumsy like fragmotion?

You need to apologies to Fragmotion!  ;D

Sounds interesting Mike, I'll have a look at it.

EDIT: Could you share a link with us? I can't find something like an official website.

Ok sounds interesting. Don't think this would work right for my banger damage though. Could be wrong though. I might take a look into it. Cheers

I believe the software is discontinued - so the only links are to the last released version...

Hopefully it should be ok - I believe version 7.61 was the last released version.

yup...Caligari Truespace is no more... the last version has been released free of cost...

this is a link to the keyframe anim tut (and a few more)...  http://www.render-lab.com/Getting_around_10.php

i mainly use version 4.3 'cause it's the interface i got used to... i find the newer ones are a lil confusing, but i do use 7 for the facial animation feature...

And this is my tip: if you're new to trueSpace, don't use the most recent version 7.61, cause its interface a bit confusing and there are no official tutorials for 7.61. Download and use 7.6 instead.

I too fully appreciated trueSpace's power, including animation. I just exported the green funny character into .x and imported to 3D Rad and the result - all works pretty fine!

Of course, it takes some time to get basics and then animation in trueSpace, but I'm sure it worth spending one's time.

I hate days like this... When I FINALLY started getting good at bone animations with frag...
Somebody makes a discovery that makes it all easier... Oh well this sounds pretty neat

LOL @ Dillon...   :D

hey... weighted bone anims outta Fragmption will look a lot better than this stuff... do't abandon your work...

this is just a simple solution for people like me who have no skillz rigging models for animation..
