Cypermethrin, I didn't use that edge-drawing technique.  Actually, I don't think its any good anymore  :-\
I realised that the surfaces wasnt lookin right at all, when I used the "Create face from contour" thing.  So I looked up some tutorials on polygonal modelling and that's what I used here.

I might have to modify it a bit more, because its supposed to be only a look-alike, that I can use in a game without having to buy a licence :) Notice the missing VW emblem in the grill and the slightly different front bumper. The rear bumper is also custom.
To keep it as close as possible to the original, my idea was to only change the parts that can be changed in real life, hood, bumpers, doors and side panels.

you do not need change any parts, if you wanna to do the car closer as it gets. did you seen any of car-addons for race games or airplane simulation? the real factory agreement you should have only, if you wanna to do it as payware. heh, interresting in case of many of flight simulator add-ons. and without permission you can just change the factory product name.

I am going to use it for payware, so what I'm gonna do is like ROckstar did with their cars in Gta or
like True Crime: NYC, where the developers only changed the lights and pretty much left the rest of the car exactly like the original.

Here's an example,
http://www.igcd.net/vehicle.php?id=11435&PHPSESSID=c18ff1&width=1366

a Honda Civic, only thing they did was to cut off bits of the head and tail lights. I mean, if they had licence to those cars, why change them at all, so I guess they  didn't have a licence.

Another case is the game RPM Tuning
A BMW 3 series:

I actually find it quite surprising that these aren't copyright infringements...

Hi Sond.. Talking about the mesh. Using Sketchup I have seen if you detail things like the door gaps it builds them with pollies, which can add a lot to its over head. Door and other details are best defined using the texture.

Hope this helps

Added: Sorry but I forgot to say great model looks really good.

Thanx, n_iron :), yes it's probably best to use texture for details.

I had a go with the contours thing last night and didn't get on with it too well, good for bonnets I found but not for the rest. I think what i've been doing recently is polygon modelling but I don't know the terms I just experiment, after all its just a hobby for me, I already have a career outside computers and i'm too old to change.
I'm making a new muscle car to try with borek's showroom so i'll see if can compete on your level now, not done a car for a while...you gonna put this one in the showroom?

hehe, that's what I thought too, It's not a very good techninque. I found that one is likely to just mess up, maybe even bonnets too.
I might put it in the show room yes.

So how much do you think I have to change unlicenced cars? cuz those in the links are very similar...

Code: [Select]
So how much do you think I have to change unlicenced cars?like I said  :P just do it closer the original as it gets, including the VW logo  8) if you wanna sell the car 3D model at any 3D model market, no factory agreement is needed. its just your art.

if you wanna sell the car as a part of any payware game is a different thing. important for AAA game developers like Rockstar maybe, but not for you, yet. and then, if you will be really so close with your car, just change the car name , logo car developer ingame. for example from "VW" - volkswagen to "MW" - mein wagen  :P

well it is all up to you, for some inspiration take a look at the real chiness atosaloon (peking 2012), what they are able there to steal and copy in their cars ;D ;D ;D
