Author Topic: Tutorial : Lightmapping with Gile(s) (Read 7801 times)
You might need to use a service on the web to make your ip address look like an american one.
I have done this before to get into a site blocked from the USA, but I can't remember how I did it.

PsychoWeasel9
Frecle started working working for me earlier today (early this morning, in fact)
Also, I didn't know that sites could be blocked in the US. The internet blacklist bill hasn't made it through congress yet, if it ever will. Surely, therefore, that's unconstitutional, unless you were on a publicly accessed, shared PC?

But, say for example; I was in Canada before and my computer automatically got directed to the Canadian Facebook. Just imagine all the sites there are in other countries.. yet we never really see them for some reason. I don't know, maybe it's google's fault.
How can i get a more blurry shadow at end of shadow and a cast shadow at the begin... like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAc1pFvtODs&feature=related
I missed some settings?
See the picture...

Remember in the tutorial, you set the lightmap size to 2048x2048...
Either change it to a lower number, or you could keep making your model bigger, which actually spreads out the shadow more, making it more blurry.
Edit: Nevermind, I see what your after. It's a good question...

I try different lightmap(256x256) but nothing... the shadow is more blurry... from the begin to the end... no cast at begin of shadow... i don't know if is possible with gile ...

You could try adding 5 omni lights, all positioned close together as the sun.
The reason I think shadows do that is because the lightsource (sun) is an actual sphere and not an infinitely small dot.
With some good tweaking, I'm sure you could get this effect.

ok, so i try with 6 omni, lightmap 512x512 (if it's higher don't look so good) and here's the result... with 15 or more lights the effect will look more real... thx Rush3Fun but not exist a faster way?

but not exist a faster way?I guess not.
I haven't tried ambient light yet though, but I'm pretty sure it won't work.
That looks pretty good for only 6 lights.. You could even go for 30 and I'm sure Gile(s) would have no problem, it might just take a while..
Also, try positioning them in a sphere-like pattern, that would help blur the top of the shadow as well.
I was searching about how to implement shadow volumes as lightmaps but no succes
I found only this pdf http://fileadmin.cs.lth.se/cs/Personal/Tomas_Akenine-Moller/pubs/soft_sig2003.pdf that attract my attention...

Just tick soft shadows in the Render Settings and you can do that with one Omni.
Takes forever to render the more samples the longer render.
Also if your Omni is too far from the pillar your shadow will be so spread that you can't see it.

I don't know why... but when i start gile sometimes the soft shadow work and sometimes not...
in the first picture the soft shadows don't work...in the second work ...maybe light position... hhmmmm...
i realy need to fix the first picture to look like second...
EDIT:ok, so the problem is when you go far away with a omni light from an object become directional and directional not support soft shadows... maybe in gile beta 5 will fix this...
