@ninkeo   :(

Sorry to hear it.  Been there, twice.  After the second time I got extra hard discs to use for backups, of all my data.  Never again.  Still mourn the loss of some stuff...   :'(

@Mic & Rush

Looks very interesting!  Freestyling is the way to go, well, except perhaps when driving in traffic, heheh.    ;D

Computers really annoy me! I've lost ALL my work in a hard drive failiure!
Ouch!  :(
I've had many things crash before, but not a HDD.

Mic:
I'm having trouble converting those files back to .3ds so I can look at them in sketchup..
Is there any way you can just save them as a .3ds file with .png files linked to the model? Sketchup doesn't support .dds unfortunately.. :-\

If not, I might be able to get my hands on a copy of maya, but a student edition.

Don't know if this will help, but this DDS converter converts to and from dds with many formats.. and it's free. It's the poor man's standard and is really nifty.

If your looking for image converter, Irfan View is really good for that. I have used it for over 12 years now. www.irfanview.com

Also, when I am able to get to my main computer I will try to convert the files into a readable format for you.

I can convert .dds files to anything I want, but I think the .3ds file needs tags to the .png format in order for sketchup to read properly.

Can you import any other formats? 3DS is a horrible format. Can google import from the DAE format?

BTW, I setup a FTP server for you and anyone you think should have access. I want to setup as a Tortoise SVN site, that way people can add objects and updates and getting the latest would be very easy. But for now you have a place to share files easy. If you want.

If used right, 3ds isn't that bad, but it can really mess up models sometimes..
There isn't many formats.. .3ds, .dem, .ddf, .kmz, .dae

Is it ready for uploading things yet? I'll have to mess around with it since I don't remember exactly how to upload stuff to an ftp server.

DAE is good format. I will try that later.

Also, if your a firefox user, you can use this plugin: http://fireftp.mozdev.org/
Its great and use it all the time. And if you are using windows, you can just type in the address I messaged you from "my computer" And right click and select Log in and use the info I messaged you to log in.

GOD NO, you dont need IE!!! Just using windows, you can go to the FTP if you just use your windows dir. system. just go to your "MY Computer" and enter the FTP info.

FF is good, I use it all the time... IMO.
