Author Topic: v7 PhysX Test : A stack of tables  (Read 3489 times)

« on: August 03, 2010, 04:32:13 AM »
Just testing out a table made up of box rigidbodies (such a relief to no longer use spheres!). I've only stacked 10 tables, but those of you with a bit of patience could test the limits ! ;D

It was neccessary to increase the default Friction property to stop the table sliding along on the ground.

I'm impressed.......a huge improvement on the ODE version!

Yes, I noticed that as well......but wanted to see if anyone picked up on it.

When we have fully working v7, don't you think that it would make for a good community project ?

As I suggested above : The Incredible Machine 3D

For those whose memories don't go that far back.......Google it! (that's the 2D version, aka TIM)

@Fernando:
Regarding the odd interpenetrations pointed out by mgear......there is a "skinwidth" parameter for the PhysX class which you can perhaps tweak (if you have not done already) which might solve this problem.

Yes, thanx Allan, the skinwidth parameter would probably help minimize the problem in this case. However I think that what would be really needed are so called skeletons for continuous collision detection, to completely prevent features of the objects from passing one through the other.

All these settings however are object specific. That is, one settings may be right for the tables but wrong for another object with a different shape/size/mass.

So they cannot be hard coded and for now we'll have to live with the default values recommended by NVidia.

After v7 is no longer in beta, we'll start discussing what PhysX-specific parameters would be nice to expose. For example, the skinwidth is certainly something we'll have as a RigidBody parameter (property dialog input box) eventually.

But all this can only come after the transition is complete, and we have collected significant feedback from the community.

Who will be first to make a PhysX falling dominoes demo ?

if i have time i will, so long as no one beats me to it :)

beat you to it

it's simple, but i dont have everything linked together cause it would freeze my netbook. just what's needed is linked

i included the domino so anyone can mess with it (oversized)

How bout' a domino machine? I made one in Phun Physics before. They are very cool.. they are like robots you can drive around that set dominos up for you. -Or in 3drad, you could tell it to follow a path. :)

Looks like PhysX is going to be very popular, and a lot of new toys are going to appear
