Sketchup is not really the best thing to be making cars with.

I use wings3d to make pretty much all of my models now, and once you even begin learning how to use it, you'd probably be able to make a better car than you could in sketchup.

Hi, there is a quick way to make sketchup cars using blueprints and intersecting 3 extruded profiles - its how I made the cars for the first demo of Grimball (see Grimbarian's posts for example results). You can knock up a basic car in under an hour. Search youtube for simple sketchup car and you will find how to do it or I will post a tutorial.

...and before we get the usual sketchup loving posts he said quick, not good

cheers
Jon

I've done this before. It's not that bad for starting a simple car.

But quick and good is nice too. In about 10 minutes, I can come up with a basic shape of a car. then I just add on to it.
I made this in less than an hour.

Good advice from cypermethrin there.

It's a good place to start for modelling cars in sketchup....

..... and some of the more advanced tools and techniques make cars that look as good as Dart's very simple to do in Sketchup,  for when you reach that stage.

Good luck with it.

There are some youtube tutorials for certain things (http://www.youtube.com/user/wings3dchannel/featured), but mostly I just experimented with what everything did. All the functions have names that pretty much describe what they do. (extrude, move, rotate, etc.) Also look to the side of functions for keyboard shortcuts, those come in handy for speed.
