Author Topic: A problem with Paint.net  (Read 1155 times)

« on: June 04, 2011, 07:41:01 AM »
I found a health bar and I modified it a bit, but now I have a little problem. There is a line on the right side of the sprite. There shouldn't be anything! I deleted everything around the bar in Paint.net, but it didn't help.
Help please!

i'm not exactly sure, looks like you just didnt select all of the open area
another thing could be that when you found it, it was a .jpg, which leaves horrible artifacts on some images

try just selecting the part you want, and copy it over to a new, completely transparent background

i don't use paint.net, so just a suggestion.

First of all, dds files should be in sizes that is multiply by 4 (128x128, 256x256, 64x32 etc).
The line that is visible on the right side of sprite is part of image on the left side.
For some reason, unknown to me, it is repeated on the other side.
I have moved your image by one (1) pixel to the right and everything was OK.

it seems the texture is mapped to simple object (rectangle for example). if you map (uv mapping) bad the texture to the object (just by one pixel), you can see then exactly this bug :-)
you can correct it with repaint (you did it), or remapping.

Well. it is a sprite object, not a skinmesh or rigidbody so, IMHO, problem is not a mapping since there is nothing to map. Problem is in either dds file type or in the way 3DRad draws sprites on screen.
It is easy to reproduce the problem. Make, in your paint program, an empty file in size like 256x256 pixels (remember the multiply by 4 rule) or so. Make an filled rectangle and move it to the upper left corner so that edges get filled. Save it as dds and place it as sprite object in 3DRad. Pixels will get repeated on the right and down. Interestingly, if you place the rectangle on the right down corner, nothing of this happens.
And, yes, I've tried several different settings for dds file type.
