Author Topic: A airplane model request  (Read 1807 times)

Hey guys, I'm new here and am making a flight sim, everything goes well and my plane is currently a buisneas jet with no breakable parts and joints to make them, it's not animated and I'm looking forward to make a a340 300 air France or any other livery I can think of, right now I have converted and split all the parts and gonna try to attach the skin mesh that was converted to the rigid body, but I'm new to this and watch the same old tutorials for joints over and over again and I followed every thing. But my rigid body stays static even though it was a dynamic one which moves... If any one willing to help me with the damage part of the plane please feel free to ask me the skin mesh and I'll send it to you, but I also need to ask permission from the original author. Sorry for my bad english, so please help. BTW the fuselage of the converted skin mesh have some lost polygons :'(

If you can wait a day or so, I'll make a tutorial for you on plane damage.  It's a bit difficult for PhysX.  Now, as to your skinmesh problems, the first part of this tutorial explaines what you need to do to fix it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVF2AlW3rB8&feature=channel_video_title

I'm using version 6.50 and it doesn't have this physX feature, the skin mesh problem was weird and the doors of the fuselage was not converted the windows too but I know the problem, the program can't concert these kind of trans lucent material and was not converted. I cant change the material so I'll skip that part. I use the cessna C172 aircraft demo and I attach the skin meshes to it but then the skin mesh was too big, a airliner compared to a tiny general aviation prop...

You've earned your "Guru" stripes 10 times over. Wish there were more like you.

Wow, thanks Jestermon- I don't know why you're suddenly expressing such faith in me, but I certainly appreciate it- I just hope to be half the person you are when I'm older.
Now, back to the problem at hand- make a separate mesh for the translucent bits, export them, and set them to "no shadows"
The tutorial I promised: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1hfFM6-UXg First half explains how it worked in v6- second explains how to correct the method for v7 (most noticeably not to use fixed joints.)

Thanks, I actuallychosen the CRJ 200 plane and I split parts, I successfully converted the rigid bodies from the plane but the physics gone weird, when I finished everything u said in the tutorial the plane gone wild and the whole plane spins and break apart, which is weird

Sure- just connect rigidbodies with joints, preferably either fixed joints or very tight hinge joints.  Then set up eventoncontacts so that when different parts of the plane hit the ground, they stop the joint & snap off, starting particles for smoke, etc, and, for example, if it's the left wing, stopping the left aileron.  To make a larger plane, just use larger rigidbodies- the basic plane mesh is just for physics in this case.  You can also edit the settings of ailerons and scripts to alter the handling of the plane, or, if you're feeling adventurous, start from scratch

The damage shows, thanks a lot! But after the plane has all the parts off and became a cuckoo plane, how did you stop the engines? After a part collided, and then smoke come out or fire, you're a big help here! Thank you so much!

Just set the force to "stop on contact" as well as the script_thrust to stop

It's not exactly what you wanted but I have a boeing 747 skinmesh you can have.
I'll have to do it when I get back home though.

hey guys i just exported a Boeing 777 airliner and completed with damage, I stll use the default c172 airfoils and rigid bodies and Aldo thz for the offer cause I can now make it easy, the a340 has some problems through the conversion with sketchup
