Ok, I use sketchup for meshes, and now I want to make some bone animations.

..can sketchup do this, or do I need something else?  What would you recommend?
(what's free to use for commercial or anything for free)

I'm guessing Blender is going to be my best bet, but is there some issue with needing 2 different versions, 2.5 to is the easiest to make bone animations with, while 2.49 is needed becasue 2.5 doesn't export the right file type?
