35 new skyboxes converted from the cubemaps found at http://www.codemonsters.de/home/content.php?show=cubemaps converted for use in 3D Rad.

Please see the website for the terms of use. Although these are said to be free for use, it is always best to check the sources, just to make sure.

These were all converted with a Pygame batch conversion script I wrote for this purpose, and some of the skyboxes are not that clear, since they are 256x256.. but most of them are quite stunning.. These are made from cube maps, so also provide a floor view.

Enjoy.

Nice skyboxes  8).
I liked 'deadmeat'(seems like fantasy theme),'greenhills' and 'mars'(cause I like fiction).Also 'opensea' and 'brightday2'.
Thanks. Actually, you've been giving the community a treat.

Hello, jestermon!

I'm new to 3DRad, but not completely inexperienced in it. In reference to your forum topic "35 new skyboxes....", i downloaded a skybox from the site you mentioned, but i'm not able to understand how to use it in 3DRad. when i downloaded the file, i got 6 skybox images and one image of a cube net, giving locations of the corresponding skybox images (i know you know this, but i still wanted to give all the details). Could you please help me on this? And also I'm not able able to change the texture of the terrian that's default in 3DRad, as shown in one of the tutorials. Thanks in advance!

In order to use these skyboxes, you would "import" them into 3D Rad like any other skybox..

Here are the steps.
1.. Make a folder in your c:\<3D Rad install folder>\3DRad_res\objects\SkyBox\data with the name of the skybox you wish to use. If for example the skybox is named "Pretty_Sunset", then you will have a folder at c:\<3D Rad install folder>\3DRad_res\objects\SkyBox\data\Pretty_Sunset
2.. Copy the contents your skybox folder into the 3D Rad skybox folder you made.
3.. Open one of the skybox images (one that looks nice) in the folder, with an image editor, that supports .jpg files, and reduce the size to 128x128 and save it as a jpg file with the same name as your skybox folder.. in this example Pretty_Sunset.jpg
4.. Copy or save this jpg file into the index folder for the skyboxes namely  c:\<3D Rad install folder>\3DRad_res\objects\SkyBox\data\index to make the new skybox loadable to the 3D Rad editor

You need to this with any and every skybox that you wish to "import" and use in 3D Rad.

Thanks a million 'J'!!!

I found it just as easy to install all these into 3Drad by just copying the entire contents from the 'data' folder found in the zip file to - c:\3D Rad\3DRad_res\objects\SkyBox\data - and then used steps 3 & 4 of your post to create an icon for the custom skybox to the 'index' folder, much of a muchness, just saved a little time is all :)

But again thanks heaps for these, great help to all of us!!!  :)

UPDATE: Would have been even quicker if I had of seen the 'index' folder in the zip first... My bad :p Just dump the contents of the 'index' folder in the zip file into your 3Drad skybox index folder. Hope this works for other as it did for me :)

There are a million roads to China. Which one you take, is up to you. But glad you can find a use for these. Have fun.
