Author Topic: 3d model animations  (Read 2732 times)

« on: June 13, 2010, 03:12:01 PM »
I recently found a free motion capture database that works with 3ds Max.

http://sites.google.com/a/cgspeed.com/cgspeed/motion-capture/3dsmax-friendly-release-of-cmu-motion-database

On this webside are around 2500 motions for human animations. I am currently downloading the files and i will write a comment later how hard it is to implement this to a model in 3ds Max (i hope its not to hard :D) and if there are any problems in using this in 3d Rad.

If anyone knows a source for other bone-based animations (animals, androids etc.) or motioncapture data's feel free to post them.

Edit.:

I now have tried to use this animation data with 3ds max and with the viedeo tutorial on the site. Its really easy to use it to animate the biped sklleton. After following the instructions in the video tutorial you have only to resize your model to match the size of your biped and ad a skin modifier. Here is a little tutorial for this : http://www.tutorialized.com/view/tutorial/Bones-Skin-Animation/57642

If your envelopes are well done and you are happy with the animation you can export it to 3d Rad with the kw exporter. It is important to group the biped and the mesh before exporting it.

Thats it, now you have a vell animated human model in 3d Rad. (i think that can be done in less than 2 hours, i tried it only without adjusting the envelopes)

Yeah, I've used them before. Very good except the position of the shoulders is always a bit weird.

I had also some problems with the shoulders but it think it was mostly a rigging problem. I looked now at several motions an in the most walking scence i saw the head was and the feed were bend. At the moment I am searching for some motions for a humanoid demon, can you recommend any? (most of the motions are looking a bit to female in my opinion)
What animations are you working with?

try the ones from the fps creator:

I use CM's bvh's with meshes made by Makehuman, they blend very well. Need to scale and rename the first set of bones to map the MH's bones to CM's, but after that, the bvh's import perfectly into Fragmotion.

After playing around for some time with animated cloth in 3ds max and the animations from fps creator i have a problem and cant find any suitable solution. The first animations of fps creator are all "falling down" animations and if i try to simulate the cloth it gets messed up.

Is there any way to reset the cloth on a certain point of the animation?

I have attached some pictures of the messed up animaton for better understanding.

you must adjust the weight map in your models... specially those that are out of the body, like cloths...

Do you know a good tutorial for weight maps? I never used them before.

Does anyone know how i can merge 2 of the motion capture files into one biped object?

Thanks a lot, the motion mixer works very well, i think also my cloth problem could be solved with it. I will look at the GDC.rar tomorrow. Its always better to know as much as possible  :)
