Well it sure is weird. You can see at the top of this page, I was previously getting:

quality 1: 45fps
quality 2: 30fps
quality 3: 25 fps

I now get:

60,45,45

I cannot even run this??? It goes to a black screen then a grey one then closes.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are to do with shaders... my computer has an integrated Intel graphics chipset with 64 gb of memory - no shaders?

Would that matter to just get the program to run?

Have tested on windows 7 and xp.  Haven't tested on laptop with win7 as it doesn't have d3d9....

Yout gfx card is required to support ShaderModel 2.0 to make this work.
Also 64mb vram might be an issue too.

On windows 7 you can install dx9, it doesn't replace dx11 or dx10 by any means.

Is there any need to install previous versions of directX? Surely the capabilities are accumulative?

@chebob69

Yes there is DirectX 11 is cumulative of DirectX 10, however they are not cumulative of DirectX 9; so DirectX 9 must be installed to utilise it.  What is interesting is that DirectX 11 is cumulative of DirectX 8....

@shadmar

I know it doesn't I just haven't got around to it yet.
Now that is a bit of an annoyance. . . What does this actually do??  Cause it makes some very nice looking terrain so was wondering how to mkae terrain without it!

If that's the case, why do applications written in dx9 work fine on my windows 7 laptop that I would assume only has v10+

Aucune idee... I get errors when trying to run d3d9 applications on my win 7 laptop.  Could be they don't use d3d9 specific commands in those applications.
