Author Topic: Export Animated Character with Biped. 3dsmax 2009 - brief tutorial  (Read 1793 times)

« on: December 08, 2009, 11:43:46 PM »
Hi everyone,

I'm new to the community and thought I'd make my first contribution. I started using 3drad last week and loved its simplicity. I've noticed debate on how to successfully export an animated character from 3dsmax. After a bit of experimentation, I managed it. This was max 2009 with the Panda exporter. I imagine it would work in 2008 and 2010 as both are very similar.

-The model is an editable mesh with a skin modifier attaching it to the default biped.
-The 2 were then grouped.
-A single animation was added, as is clear from the screenshot.
-File-> Export (not Export Selected)

The attached image shows the settings used.

Sorry for the mega-bump but this is really useful information as biped animations are a much better choice IMO for characters than trying to make a custom bone heirarchy (unless the biped option didn't exist).  A biped is also nice because you can make custom parts that can be switched out run-time for making customizable items and body parts.  thanks for this info!
