Hello 3drad community, my name is Kevin Tillman and I am glad to be apart of the community, I am a 3d artist who is looking to make his own game without all the technical difficulities that get in the way of creativity, I have been studying 3d and 2d art for some years now and it has always been my goal to make my own rpg similiar to zelda, are there any suggestions as to if 3d rad is the right tool for me, i looked at tools such as quest3d for artists, but its still to difficulit to grasp, and i want to focus on creativity. I posted some examples of my art to give an example of wat i want to do.

Hello , I can only see one of your images, but it look really good. :)
It remind me some of my models, but with an extra profesional touch...

For making a Zelda like game with 3DRad you will have to script.
The good thing is: scripting in 3DRad is quite easy, and if you try to learn it, you will find help in the forum.
You may have to divide your game in levels due to the nature of 3DRad, but that wouldn't be a real problem for a Zelda game.

Anyway, 3DRad will allow you to learn, define how your game should work and create at least a preview of it (if you want to switch to another engine later, you will know what you really need).

Oh I see, I have tried my hand at programming many many times, and I have had many frustrations with it, the only language that I have really stuck with as apposed to fully learning is python. And now since im trying to learn the whole "3D" aspect of things, I have to now get into vectors and matrices. And quest3D looks awsome, and so does 3drad, im trying to figure out which one is the the way to go, also which scripting language does 3drad use again?

I have updated my post, sorry for the mistake, also thanks you guys for your compliments as well...

Hello and welcome.
I must say this is really awsome artwork.
Hope see some of them rendered in 3dRad in the future. :)

Hey thanks guys, i appreciate the feedback, and IronF thats a really nice presentation you put together for your model, it even gave me some ideas i may convey in the future with my own artwork.

Thank you Kevin, but I'm in love with your monsters model and I hope to see more of your work :)
Great modeling skills and great design!

I will help you with scripts as much as I can if you decide to give 3DRad a try.

I'm not one of the best scripters arround (I often needed Mike and the other good scripters help :) ) but I'm actualy working on some features that you could adapt to your project (Pathfinding, Inventory, Dialog, IA...).

IronF thanks man, I really cannot decide on which engine I want to use, quest3d is like 1,800$ for a lisence! :-(. Also, the art style of my game I want it to be simple and cartoony but yet with nice detail on the models and environments, similiar to banjo kazooie on the 360. That way I can have good visuals but wont have to spend too much time working on small details and stuff..Also here is an orc im working on, I have to re-rig this character because I dont like how I rigged his jaw, you cant see his teeth lol!

Concept and model here...

Really good work ;)

I think Rad is worth it and versitile enough if you use a bit of imagination . Just start some prototyping to get the hang of it, and see what you like about it. Create a simple stage or scene and put a model into it and play around for a while, after a couple of days youll see if its for you or not  ;)

Thank you for this eye candy: I really like his torso, look like he doesn't always eat good quality food (elves don't make an healthy diet) and drink a lot of ale. :)
The pose is very dramatic and I can feel his weight.

As I don't want to push you in 3DRad (and make you regret it later...) you should try to import a monster model with a test animation to see if it fill your needs.
The facial animation can be hard to achieve as there isn't "real morphing" (with moving vertex) in Rad.
You can do it with bones animation or by switching meshes.

There are a lot of script samples, you should also try to read some of them.
The Rad script reference is here:http://www.3drad.com/Script_reference.php

Whatever you chose I hope you will be able to make all those nice models run around. :)

Another pro of 3drad is that if you need a new feature you can just order it.
Try importing the models. Use radimp (look for it on this forum) to quickly export your model to 3drad.
I hardly know how to code and made some simple games.

Hey guys, I really appreciate all of your feedback. And I have a few more questions before I make my final decisions, if everyone could all just bare with my newbness...

1. When it comes to game engines, im actually not a graphics whore, I studied art to make sure I can create art, not necissarily have the most realistic water effects and bloom effects. So that being said, beside the artistic content that I want to put in my game, I am looking for great functionality, what I mean by this is character AI, characters that respond to you when u get within a certain distance of them, pathfinding etc. And I want all this without having to script anything really. Quest3d and Rad seem to both allow me to be able to achieve this without touching scripts...
But as you guys have said, I will need to do some scripting, and this I really am not favorable of, at all :-(.
2. So I actually dont mind spending the $ to request a new feature, I want everything to be completely visual when creating my logic for my game. Any feature I need I will throw in all the $ to make sure I get it, as long as it  gives me the functionaliy I want in my game and keep me away from any textual scripting...

I really like the idea of reqesting new features in 3drad, I am very passionate about bringing my game ideas to life.So if there is a feature such as in depth AI that is needed so I wil not have to script anything, I am all for it. So instead of spending 1,800$ to purchase Quest 3d I can use that money to  pay for new features in 3drad and make it even more amazing than it is. And not only that, everybody benefits from these new features! :-D

Oh btw Mike_Hense I downloaded your Tropical Island walkthrough. Very Nice, it is already giving me a feel of what 3drad can do, thanks for that contribution.

hello Kevin, great art you have there!  :)

about the engine, dont be mistaken, while 3drad have easy and wide functionality to do a lot of things, currently there's no character AI or/and pathfinding at all.  there was a big talk about that but, apparantly... "everything is soooooo complicated", so... no AI/pathfinding here man, you would need to script all these things..

Hey guys thanks for all of your help, I actually found what I needed. I have started pre-production for the stoyline, character bios, concept art and environment info on my game. I am trying to go for a different artistic style to attract peoples attention faster when looking at my game. The game is centered around good and evil, and it will play like a mix between zelda and Ico.
Here is a pic of the main character named Leo. He is the hero of the game who is a victim of the evil curse and is trying to break free from it. He has been given the sword of light by the side of good in order to battle evil minions.
