Author Topic: SketchUp crashes using 3DRad exporter plug-in  (Read 1658 times)

Hello everyone,

Thank you Fernando for releasing 3DRad for free.  It is a very cool program and seems very well designed.

I am inexperienced at 3D development and am tinkering with this as a hobby for now.  I am going through the tutorial:  "Making interactive projects with any 3d model from the Google 3D Warehouse: alternative technique".
When I get to the eleventh lesson, "Water Pools:  Part 1", in SketchUp, after deleting the water pools from the Gatehouse Scene and trying to export with the 3DRad export plugin as a "Skinmesh with backfaces", SketchUp crashes.  I have reinstalled both SketchUp and 3DRad, repeated the tutorial, and still get the same results.  Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I decided to proceed with the tutorial, skipping over the Water Pool lessons and on to the "UFO:  Part I" lesson.  But the video won't load.  The embedded videos have never worked for me; they start but then stop probably about one quarter way to the end so I have just clicked the link to download them and watch them in my own media player, with success, until now.  ..... Well, I just now realized maybe the problem was with the browser, mine being Firefox, so I decided to try it in Explorer, and, even the embeded video works in Explorer after downloading somekind of directX add on.  You might want to inform people about this.  Is there a Firefox add on I could use?

Welcome dustov!

The video for windows plugin for FireFox is supposed to be able to play the tutorial videos completely. The fact that the video is only played partially in your case is very odd. I have no idea on what could be wrong  :-\

The same goes with SketchUp, I just tried again and everything worked. I have used SketchUp 7. What are your PC specifications?

Hello Fenando, thanks for the reply

My computers specs:

Motherboard:  Abit I-45C
Chipset :   Intel i945G/GZ
Processor :   Intel Pentium E2180 @ 2000 MHz
Physical Memory :   2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM )
Video Card :   NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS
Windows XP PRO

Another problem with the tut is getting the script to work in lesson 18 "Adding Logic:  part 2".  I pasted the script in the code window exactly as shown in the video but when I play the game nothing happens with the lights.  In the code window I have clicked the button "Check Script" and this causes error messages to appear, namely "Obj_0" and then "Out_1....12" are not declared.

Despite these problems I think your tutorials, with the combination of text and video, are very thorough.

if you are in a group or in a component when exporting to 3D Rad sketchup will crash. At least it does for me. So when you export, you need to be out of any group/component.
