Author Topic: Deadly Derby Inspired by Twisted Metal and Burnout  (Read 422 times)

« on: March 16, 2014, 04:42:07 PM »
I have been working on Deadly Derby for around three years now after remaking it from scratch five times.

Basically its a demolition derby game inspired by Twisted Metal and Burnout. The game at the moment includes three different powerups, a split screen multiplayer, one map, one gamemode and some AI opponents to demolish.

At the moment, the game is not beatable because I havent found out how to make the AI opponents have hit points. (Dont worry, you can still smash them to bits and blow them to the heavens with the powerups.)

Controls

Player One
SZXC to move your car.
A to use the firework powerup. (Firework sounds can stack if you spam the button.)
CTRL to use the gun powerup. (Guns are useless at the moment since the AI players cannot be killed yet, and the sounds for the guns can also stack if you spam the button.)
D to use the turbo powerup. (Turbo can glitch and make your car fly in the air.)

Player Two (In splitscreen, his hud is bugged so I made it appear on player one's screen.)
Arrow keys to move your car.
(Player two cannot use powerups because the compiler decided it didnt want him to.)

Download (800 MB)

Also, load times may be kinda long.  ::)

I have no idea why your game would be 800MB to download, maybe you aren't creating the .cmp files for you project?

You can fix the P2 HUD by making it show up on both P1's cam and P2's cam (link each sprite to both camchases), and make the loading times smaller by creating sprites from the textprints (I see you've used a lot of them, try to use as little as possible to decrease loading times).

Those aside, it's a pretty good looking game :)

No idea why its so huge either. I think it is because I havent created the CMP's. But for now I fixed p2's hud by making it show on p1's screen too.

Ninkeo is right. You need create .cmp files, or not delete it. And i have a question. How much fps it works?, because i see the first picture and you use GodRays, a reflecting floor and a lot of textprints, that decrease a loooot of fps, maybe your computer is a spaceship, but some people on this forum doesn't have a good computer (like me ;D). You can change that things and please, try to reduce the file size ;)

well... what do ya want... there's nothing there... certainly nothing to justify an 800 MB download...

now i'm all for supporting newbs who show some ingenuity and stick-to-it-iveness... but you say you've got 3 years of experience with RAD under your belt...
ok... so, where's the beef...

ya certainly didn't make those car models...  ya didn't make the terrain... the trees... the huds... as a matter of fact, did ya make anything in the scene yourself...

but hey, that in itself is not a showstopper...  if only there was some sorta game there...

ya say it's a demolition derby type game... where's the demolition... where's the images of vehicle damage... explosions... metallic carange...

...

are ya startin to see why i'm so underwhelmed...

hey, don't take it personal...  it's just a matter of fact critique... either use it or ignore it...

hey... that's just my opinion... don't make that the reason for you to remake your entire project...
if you think it's good enough the way it is, then forget me...
