Author Topic: Trouble running my fragmotion animation in 3D rad  (Read 452 times)

Hi there,
I've been using 3D rad for about half a year now (mainly goofing around with it) and have recently started creating bone-based animations with Fragmotion 1.2.2.
Here I'm encountering a problem. I've made a simple test character made from boxes (kind of like Steve from minecraft) in Google SketchUp 8 and animated a walk sequence in Fragmotion. It works well in there. Then I exported it to .x, created a new sprite in 3Drad and replaced the 000_mesh.x file in the character's folder.
I can't see the option to change the Animation set (as with the demo Android) in the 3Drad sprite interface and when I run it I only see the default pose... I think it might be something with exporting the model from fragmotion, but I've pretty much tried all possible combinations of export settings so I'm not sure  :(

Could someone please help here as this is honestly bugging me out  ???

Sprite?  ???

If you have only one animation set in your model, than you won't have the animation set options, keep that in mind.

To get your animation to work, you need to export with certain settings selected, or it won't work.
These .x export settings work for me:

- Text
- Frame numbers + [your animation fps]
- Add Root Frame
- Hierarchical Mesh
- Matrix Keys

O.o Sorry, I meant SkinMesh  :-[

Ok, I tried exporting it now with those settings exactly. Still all I see when I run it in 3Drad is the default pose, that is, the character standing straight. In my animation there is no frame where the character is standing like that... am I still doing something wrong or are there special internal specs in fragmotion that I've missed?

Thanks for helping me with this!   :)

Okay, I got it working.

I used the exact settings as described above with fragMOTION 1.2.2.

First of all I tried exporting the mesh without any changes and as you said, though an animation was found by 3D Rad, the mesh didn't move.

So first I cleaned the model by using 'weld all', then I removed the first two bones from the bone chain since they didn't add anything to the model. And that's it, it worked.

But a little note, keep in mind that the 'default pose' is not exported as an animation. You'll have to add a zero animation as well. Also, you might want to make sure that this zero animation is animationset 0 in 3D Rad. Doing this, you ensure that the engine handles your default pose is handled as an actual default pose. Try holding 'F' while looking at an animated object in the editor.

You might find This http://www.insanesoftware.de/ CharacterFX program easier to  Animate in, however, It only exports DirectX8, so you gotta Import/Export from Fragmotion. I also exports MD2, which can be used in Cube and Cube2 .. Saurbraten, PASandbox, ect.
