Whats the best way to have a similar color palette across you models. By that i mean having the same color palette for all building textures, but i dont want to have to create all my own textures from scratch, rather apply the palette to the textures i get elsewhere. Is there a feature out there you use or similar or am i just talking rubbish here.

having a same or similar color palette for texured objects in the whole game scene? that depends on the game skinmesh shader, on the texture source paint, on the light - the textures you can tune with some paint program and so on...  8)

crazy idea: you could try bit funny tingy - to set the skinmes color directly with 3drad.
all skinmesh source textures shoud be gray color, and then you nicely can set the color tone the scripted way, more here about: http://3dfoundry.net/forum/index.php?topic=646.msg5768#msg5768

ah it'd be mad to have some limited palette alright through out the whole game,
not unless its Limbo or the like, no i just mean to have consistency visually.

Lets say i get a nice brick texture and then apply it to a building, the building next door will have a different brick texture ( artwork isnt my strong point so probably off the net) so other than fiddling endlessly with hue/rgbs (once again not my strong point end up looking like christmas wrapping) is there a way of making them match up.

Im probably just being lazy here looking for a magic bullet, but some of the artwork here has nice consistency to it, is that all just custom textures from scratch?

Also the shader idea sounds very interesting, how would you see that applied? Like to give the scene a general hue?

Yep, Art is Art. Its down to you to ensure everything "blends" well together.

You can use iShaderFloat3Set(OBJ_0,"cColor", r,g,b); as BorekS already mentioned. But you will need to "think" it through before slapping it onto every mesh.

I'd highly suggest you start a simple project 1st, learn the ropes, worry about this later when you have built up your knowledge.

I would suggest just editing the textures side by side in your favourite art program, tweek the hue/saturation sliders till you get what you want and move to the next.

Michael, I understand if you say you can't texture, then you can't texture.  But you want to make games, and you probably don't have a team, so you're going to have to bite that magic bullet and make them.  Using textures from websites is a great way to get your game looking sharp fast, and cuts production time, but remember not to cross the line of infringement.  Even intellectual property is fuzzy these days.  If you really need textures and you can't make them, get a program that can!  Genetica and Crazy Bump are what I use and the results speak for themselves :)
