Author Topic: sketchup tutorials. any suggestions?  (Read 662 times)

« on: April 21, 2013, 02:20:35 PM »
As i gain in my knowledge of trimble ( previously Google ) sketchup, i plan to make a few tutorials on how to use the program.
I will be focusing on basic techniques to get you started.
Not very detailed complex stuff, but things like basic tools and tricks. Like terrain, basic buildings and things like that.

So far i have done the sandbox tile able terrain. I plan to go further with that and add more detail.
Also i shall show you how to make a terrain like the default one in rad.

Soon to come will be a powerpoint presentation type thing where you can go at your own pace to see what tools are used and what to do.with.them.

It will have detailed instructions in perfect English saying what to do, with annotated images.

So what this topic is for, is mainly if you like this idea, and what i should include in it or not.

Also, i may be able to show how it works in the game engine in 3d view during.runtime.

So any suggestions?

Ps, for those slightly embarrassed to say, i have added a poll to see if it is a good idea, so you don't have to say.

So any suggestions?

Only one suggestion. Stop boring us with what you may, or may not do.
To keep our interest in your projects, just DO the friggen things and post them, otherwise we really don't care.

I'll be very interested in this, the models you made for Dark Suits were good and well textured - I'll be very keen to see what you learnt at college, I'm always up for learning new sketchup stuff

Most textures were joezues's work.
I just use basic textures.

I've been learning modeling for about 2 years now.
I used to be like

oh no! Ill never model! Its too hard!!!

But now it us easy for me. And i hope to give back what i learnt.

I will start of with terrain modeling using all the tools of sandbox and then move onto basic buildings.  After them i am open to suggestions.

All models i make i will let you download them. as well as the sketchup files.

It may not be regular as i have to plan it all out and i still have course work to do for my games course but ill do my best to keep you updated each week.
