Author Topic: 'Show your work' - 2 forums ?  (Read 1049 times)

What do you, experienced users, think ?

Hi, everyone.
I noticed that many works that posted here are posted by beginners, including for testing purpose and lots of those works aren't designed properly: without screenshots, without resources when needed or even empty.

I realise that newbies' (including kids') works should be paid attention for sure, but because of things mentioned above, experienced users works are getting lost quickly among those beginners' works, which with troubles. (It is also to be noticed that some authors of those works have no sincere wish to show their works properly, IMHO, I may be wrong) I also realise that there are some beginners' works, which designed properly and reflect an author's interesting ideas and not just a bit modified 3drad demo.

I've seen plenty of very good works in the forum and I appreciate 'Show your work' forum, that's why I can compare it with an exhibition of paintings (game-making is an art, creative work, isn't it ?). So an artist, newbie or experienced, kid or elderly, should take care of his/her work.(We often ask authors of those works to attach screenshots or upload something or fix any other problem, which prevents from seeing their work).

So, my question and probably suggestion:
Is it possible and reasonable to have two 'Show your work' forums: one for beginners and another for experienced ones ? (Should we have two rooms in an exhibition of paintings  :) )

This is just an idea...

All beginners to the back of the bus!..

Nah, I think this forum should be for showing what you're doing with 3D Rad...

If you wanna post recycled demos, just to post something then, be prepared to be tore-up... :P

But, there's much to be learned or inspired from noob and pro alike from seeing their work.

And who's to say where someones work belongs? -I wouldn't consider myself a beginner or necessarily experienced. Can I haz my own forum then? ;D

Yes, I agree.  :)
If there will be the 2 forums, each user could decide himself/herself which forum to post their work on. (I noticed Fernando is a bit 'democratic' and doesn't tend to strict rules as I saw on other forums).
I wanna repeat my thought: beginners' forum, actually, not against beginners works in general (there are many beginners works properly posted and interesting); rather for preventing from the works not designed or posted properly or just midified a bit  demos and things like these.

Edit: if a beginner made some sincere effort to make even a small project and he/she himself/herself appreciate her/his work and she/he was eager to do her/his best, why he/she must post on the so called beginners forum ? Let him post on the right forum, that he considers to post on properly. But if one isn't sure what he/she whiped up or how to post his work properly, why he/she firstly don't try to post his/her work on so calles beginners' forum ?

It's not really a good idea to ask people to rate themselves as noob or pro, since it is never an honest rating. I agree that there are some pretty silly things posted by noobs, but some of them post really awesome stuff. It's really up to those that view the upload to decide what the game means to them personally. And 2 threads with the same topic won't help much anyway, since I've seen serious questions posted in "off-topic", and off off-topic stuff posted in "future-development". We all try our best to keep some order in the forum, but now and then chaos strikes from the heart of the "noobie"... it's all part of the process. And the moderators are more like angels than policeman, they don't patrol the streets, they simply smother a volcano before it erupts.

D00d you are so right. I am a n00b but I'm quickly learning, so I'm hoping the big project I'm working on would get more recognition. Ditto to all yall. ::)
