Quick racetrack tutorial in Silo2.1

1. Open Silo 2.1
2. Hit 5 top get top view in the viewport
3. Create->Edge Tool
4. Draw your track

5. When done, hit Enter, Esc, F, click out side the path so it's deselected
6. Hit 2 to get Front in viewport
7. Create the road profile using the Create->Edge Tool

8. Move scale the profile at place it at the begiing of the track path
9. Have both the profile and the track selected

10. Create->Path Extrution Object

11. Now it looks really edgy and not very nice
12. Hit C (subdivide 2-3 times)

13. Hit Shift+C to refine mesh and export it to rad.

Have fun :)

Thanks, You can do alot of simple Silo stuff, it's just so easy to use, but not sure how many actually use it.

Here is a tunnel section this takes about 3 minutes to model in Silo (2 object model), using paths, extrusion, bridge and subdivision.

nice little tut shad :)

for max users ...

follow the above steps just like shad made them

but use the LINE to draw the track path

and another one for track's section ( profile )

then use the Loft modifier to loft the tracks profile along its path

experiment with the shape/path steps for smoother/rougher results ( but don't smooth too much )
and voila :D

After doing path extrusion object, it does not make a path but a shape at a place. ??? ??? ??? I have selected both objects.

Me no, I just like Silo, takes very little time to learn.
It's really a cheap modeler compared to most non-free modelers out there. MAX is $2500 or maybe more in comparison (has alot more features too then..)
