Author Topic: Huge flightsim project  (Read 1738 times)

« on: September 11, 2010, 08:06:03 PM »
I've made some terrains to put into a flightsim. I wanted to give the player as much freedom as possible by making the map huge, but when 3D Rad tries loading it it goes mad. So I took out all but one part of the map. If you do decide to download the game can you tell me what you think?

extraction takes longer than the download...
I'm never here and if I am I will try and say something...

HUGE !!!   Not really.

A 5km terrain means nothing in a flightsim. For a car maybe. From the air, a 5km mesh is meaningless. This is the reason than unlimited terrains ideas with imposters are being made.

You wish to know what we think ?
This is just the flight demo with a different terrain, nothing original here.
Am I being nasty? Not at all, just honest.

good luck with your project...

i'd take Jestermon's criticism as a helpful critique... she is correct and is pointing out things that you should definitely take into consideration if you intend to make a huge flight sim...

i'll be releasing a few more flight related resources... some freebies, some payware... hope they'll be of some use to you...

again... good luck...

Don't give up, criticism should serve to make you aspire to greatness, and to "heck: with the critics like me :)
Go for it.

Right on AIM9,  keep plugging away!!!  And never take any criticism personally... Although some of the board members can come off jaded at times,  their suggestions are invaluable, especially if you are going to bite off something like a flight sim!!  One key to doing a flight sim (in considerations to technical limitations) is not so much having a persistent terrain, but how you hide the vanishing point.   This applies to all game theory, but even moreso to flight sims...
