What does a modeler earn.. what does a model cost..It is not unusual for game companies to spend BIIG $$$ on 3rd party models, since it can be cheaper than making it themselves.
When would it be cheaper than making it themselves? I guess if equated to the salaries of the modellers needed to achieve it..

1.. How long will it take to make each one?
2.. What will an inhouse modeler cost in salary, time and materials, coffee, dougnuts, transport expenses, overtime, electricity, software licences, harware... ad infinitum
Unless it's very specific to a unique game, models are ALWAYS cheaper to buy than to make. We are talking high quality here, remember.
