Author Topic: Terrain exporter plugin  (Read 2501 times)

« on: November 21, 2009, 04:37:12 AM »
Hi, is it possible to donate for a third-party tool plug-in or .x exporter?

I've found a simple but powerfull Terrainmaker but it don't support .x files at the moment, so its much work to convert and manage textures and file handling.  :P

The Terrainmaker itself is free and maybe we can 'motivate' (with a donation) the developer to provide a exporter like the one for sketchup that saves Rigidbodys and Skinmeshes directly to the 3DRad folders.  ;D
This would be another easy and free standard-tool for 3DRad.

The TerrainMaker calls LiquidLight and has all you need to create and paint/blend textures without learning a week to handle... (much easier then giles!)
It also works on older machines or laptops  ;D
The program is from 2007 and the Homepage is temporary down but I hope we can reactivate the sleeping beast!

please give it a try: http://www.logansmind.net/uploads/LiquidLightR2_4.2.0.1.zip

@leon: looks like you took the generate random function.
try the 'draw' tools, go with the mouse to the left side of the window so they will appear.
at the right side you can choose a texture.

Can you also change rsolution or tile several ground planes?
I would say, pay some $ and fuse this with 3drad.

This would definately be a great pair . I couldnt run it though...had a whoooole bunch of missing stuff and errors while generating the terrain. Probably not compatible with Vista 64 bit. ;)

In order to write a plugin for a third party application (or even to estimate a cost) I have to first learn the ins and outs of the application and its plugin SDK (which makes the job much harder and expensive) or hire somebody who knows it (which makes the job even more expensive).

So it's not that donations aren't possible, but that the whole process may not be worth unless the plugin is for a major application that almost every 3drad user uses or would use.

The SketchUp plugin was expected to make SketchUp the main modeling tools for 3drad users, but what actually happened is that users kept using their favorite modelers and their DirectX export plugins  :-\

I think what we mean, is to let the developer of the terrain building software to make the plugin.

but, Fernando, I cannot see the point of turning SketchUp (or any other program) into the 'main' modeling tool for 3dRad... However, I think the fact that is possible to use in such an easy out of the box fashion a so extended and also free tool as SketchUp is, with its 3dWarehouse and all...  one undeniably wonderful feature for 3dRad. hurrai for that!   :-\ -> :) :)

about the topic, I have a question:
the texture that terrain showed in the 3drad editor is using, is a HUUUGE one or the terrain is somehow adapted to use 2 little textures and tile and blend 'em?

@loop
The texture size is per default at 2048x2048.
you can change it iin the 'rendering options' menu to 128x128, 256x256, 512x512, 1024x1024!
Heightmap and texturemap output is also possible for using with other generators.

@Fernando
there is a plugin guide in the package maybe it helps ?!
otherwise somebody can ask the original developer too do, as Daniel said...
and he gets some money from you over the donationboard.

It wasn't the goal. What I meant is that it was expected to become the main tool because it looked an excellent free modeler with a huge library of free models.

Because it was expected to do well, the big resources spent to develop the plugin seemed a good investment. But cost-benefits ratio wasn't as good as expected.
