Create a Free Kickass Terrain in 3dRad (part 1)
This is just a jumpstart to get to know the workflow.
I will add more detailed stuff on how to create more car/character friendly terrains in part 2.
It will take you about 4 minutes to get this result :
0. Get software :
1. L3DT version 2.8 beta2 or newer http://www.bundysoft.com/L3DT/downloads/standard.php
2. Fragmotion 0.9.6 or newer http://www.fragmosoft.com/fragMOTION/download/index.php
3. Radimp 0.5 or newer http://www.3drad.com/forum/index.php?topic=1991.msg14556#msg14556
1. Start L3DT
Click New Map to start the Wizard
2. HeightField Size
- Adjust Horiz Scale to 1
- Click Next
4. Design Map size
- leave this as it is just Click Next
5. Design Map Parameters
Play around or just leave as deafult, you can try different Climates.
6. Calculation Queue
Check :
Heightfield
WaterMap
Attributes Map
(Lightmap only if you need to bake lightmap into texture)
TextureMap
Click Next
8. Water Flooding
Click Next
Click Next
9. Texture Settings
Uncheck Use Lightmap (unless you want baked lightmapping in your texture, see previous section)
Uncheck Splitmap
Click ok and .. wait till colorshow is over...
10. Now Click the 3-D button if you want to see how it looks in 3d.
11. Export
Right click mouse on the texturemap choose Export->Export OBJ and MTL
Navigate to c:\3d Rad\import\
Enter a filename.obj
Click Save
You will get a message saying your heightfield contains 2000k triangles, Click yes
Adjust Max error(m) to a value that gives you ~ 60k traingles.
Click ok
12. Close L3DT
13. Start Fragmotion
14. Import
Menu : File->Import
Navigate to C:\3d Rad\import\
Choose your newly saved .obj
15. Flip Normals
Ctrl+A to select all vertextes
Menu : Face->Reverse Vertex Order
16. Export
Menu : File->Export
Choose filetype Direct X files (.x)
Click Save
Check Add Root Frame
Click ok
17. Start RadImp
Check Skip Shadowmesh
Check Copy Mesh
Check Copy Textures
Select your .x
Menu : 3d Rad->Import RigidBody Static
Menu : 3d Rad->Import SkinMesh
18. Close RadImp
19. Open 3D Rad
Add your RigidBody, SKinmesh, g-force, a car and camchase and just drive around....
20. PS! If you want to convert this to a Terrain Object (with RadImp), you can do that after you've loaded the rigidbody atleast once in 3dRad.
