Did you check the "Depth Sorting?". Sometimes that can be the issue.

I get the same results as you with the tmix method. It would be convenient to get this sorted out so as to keep those meshes in one folder.

I tested 2048x2048 textures. I think it all depends on how good your graphics card is. So huge textures would only work on fast machines.
