Author Topic: Why cant my Vehicles drive on my RigidBodies?  (Read 1584 times)

« on: September 11, 2009, 07:40:34 PM »
Hi!

First of all, I would like to thank you all for the great help this forum has given me so far.

Secondly, I would like to ask why the car I made cant drive on the RigidBody I have in my game without bouncing and flipping. This doesnt happen with the car on normal terrain.

My RigidBody is very smooth, so I dont think its because its non-even.

Is there something special about the terrain object? If so, how do I make the model from my RigidBody into a terrain object? I have the car and skinmesh linked to the rigidbody already along with a g-force object.

Thanks for reading, I look forward to reading your responses.

i made it way to big and it just started to bounce when i started going so i would suggest that you make it smaller or turn the bounce on the car down.

hard to say without know how you rigid body is.
maybe you could post a pic or something else.
Ive had these kind of problems but Ive solved 'em increasing the number of polys in the terrain.

also, take a look at this thread

more polies, more detailed, less bumpyness.
also a tip: only link the skinmesh to what you want the skinmesh to follow(it does not have physics at all.
also are you using the car object or a custom car rigidbody?

Currently using 7.22

Thanks! Ill try adding more polys to it. How would I go about doing this? Should I try subdeviding to smooth it further? Im using Google Sketchup. Im trying the soften edges tool now...

Sorry I didnt post for a while, Ive been a little busy.

Heres a picture of the rigid body Im using as my terrain, its for a demoliton mode in a car game Im making.

Soften Edges made kind of a difference, but Im still getting bouncing.

Still cant get things to work properly... but thanks for all the help Ive recieved so far, I think I'm getting closer to figuring it out  :)

Why wont my low-poly terrain work? What does more polys add? Im not trying to be critical, Im just concerned because my game is being made in a style where I make my models with minimalistic polygons to make things crisp and simple. Will this not work in 3DRad?

is your minimalist terrain plain? i mean... your vehicle bounce in a plain terrain or there are diferences between levels. if there are diferences between levels, (an up/down hill) dude... you need to ad polys. that's it, no minimalism today.

also, if you readed this post http://www.3drad.com/forum/index.php?topic=1410.0 you'll find out more polys in corners (even when you may find out the surface is soft enough) can help

trial and error, in the end that's the way.

Ok, thanks! The car runs on normal terrain, just not my RigidBody models. I will look into adding more polys. Its probably for the best anyways.

Thanks again!
