has anyone made a helicopter in 3drad?

Yea, idk, the airfoil idea doesn't work for me. It might take alot of playin around with numbers. It would be nice if someone had one tho.

Just make an animated mesh with rotating blades. Loop the animation. Use forces and gravity for movement. Make a code so that when speed is above a certain value the chopper rotates a bit to the front to make it look more realistic.

That's the "cheating" method of making a helicopter. With 3DRAD you can make a real physics helicopter, although it will take much more time and effort than the cheat version!!! :)

my idea was to have 4 airfoils spinning, then adjust the angles to make the chopper lift or drop, it didnt fly! lol!

I dont need to make one, i just thought id have a go at making one and thought it would be interesting to see other peoples points of view.

If using airfoils, the trick is paying attantion to where you place the airfoil center, as it is where forces are applied.

Using airfoils for the rotor blades is an interesting experiment indeed, but using forces as verdec suggested is probably much easier to tweak.

I had a go at this with foils and just physics.
It's working but I haven't implemented steering tho. I get lift and its seems ok.
NO SCRIPTS USED! :)

You need a small RB to get this working it's in the rar file.
Unrar this into your C:\3D Rad\3DRad_res\objects\RigidBody\data\   folder

Have fun :)

oh plus i am 13 so keep it simple because i tried lowering the amount of g-force but i only start floating around and cant control wich way im going

So start a new topic.  And look at the airfoil help files, if you haven't

There's a blade on the back of helicopters. That could spin so it could steer.
I fail at scripting. :(
