ah, now I see  :D

Quote
TextureFilename { "c:/tools/Vue7PLE/Scrubla0.bmp"; }

but as I said: changing to terrain did it!

I played around with it and see that the 'cancel' button in terrain requester not proper worked  :-\
the sequence goes further without filename and shows several error messages, but no serious.

 Thanx

Ahh I think maybe the Terrain object has the ability to read paths in the .x to get texture but Skinmeshes/RB's do not.
Anyway I'll fix the cancel bug in 0.5, thx for reporting it :)

EDIT: this gave me an idea, maybe to add "Strip texture paths from mesh" feature :)

It's  just an update in the description for radImp in the top post to make abit more new-userfriendly..

v0.5 will probably have "Assemble Car from dyn.RB (body/wheel)" menu option. (very uncertain but I will post more when I've done some tests).

el bumpo!

How is this feature coming along?

Imp is the best thing that happened to Rad!

It's not coming along as I wanted, the problem is where to place the wheels?
The car objects needs wheel placement, you could however set it manually in the .ini file for the car, but it wouldn't bee a smooth process then.

Is the radimpfolders.ini file located in the same directory?
And if you open this file, is the path to the import directory correct ?
Default its : 1=C:\3d Rad\import

I changed it manually to c:\Program Files\3D Rad\import and it works wonders

Hello. I am new in 3DRAD. I cant make RadImp to work (obvously my fault). My 3D Rad is on C:\3D Rad folder, what can I do to import a Terrain from Giles? What import option should I use? Terrains are very important to me. Tks in advance
« Reply #38 on: August 25, 2009, 08:31:31 AM »
Well there is several ways depending if you want to use RigidBody+SkinMesh or use it as a Terrain-object. Both ways are usable for Terrains.

1st option (RB+SM) is most flexible and you can use different shaders.

1. Check Don't include Shadow, and Check Don't delete after import.
2. Import as SkinMesh
3. Import as RigidBody Static
4. Load RB in 3dRad, click No
5. Load SM in 3dRad, hide RB.

2nd method (Terrain Object) is very easy to use and it's normalmapped, and it's just one click.

1. Import as RigidBody Static
2. Load it in 3d Rad, click No. Also check that textures are shown.
3. Create terrain-object from existing RB.
4. In 3dRad remove the RB and load the Terrain you just made.

Thanks very much. I am a little bit confused with the pipeline for the models. I have to read the docs in deep. Although I have many other engines, I think we have potential in this one.

Shadmar, works nice with second option, but textures not show. Any tip? Thank in advance. Your tool helps a lot.

PS: you told me about the first option more flexible. Why?

Thanks

Textures has to be in the same folder as the mesh. Check that it is.

First option is more flexible because you can use different shaders on the skinmesh, and do pretty much anything a skinmesh is capable of, you can also adjust collision detection resolution on the RB. The terrain object has almost no tweaks, but it comes with a nice high uv-repeated normalmap.

Small update, no car assembling this time, sorry cland  :-\

v0.5
===
  • Fixed small bug when cancelling a RB to Terrain conversion.
  • Bigger Window, I guess size does matter.
  • 2 new checkboxes, Copy Textures, don't moveSkip all texture import
  • It's no longer needed to click YES or NO after RB import, RadImp now creates dummy .spg .pol .ply files which 3dRad updates automagick.
