Author Topic: 3D Game studio (.mdl) models in 3DRad?  (Read 4730 times)

« on: May 04, 2009, 11:46:55 AM »
I'm sure that more than a few of use own 3D Game studio as well as 3D Rad?
After a few years away form game making, I purchased both, as i did a few years back!
Isn't the water effect amazing in Rad?

There seems to be a lot of free models for Game studio in .mdl format. Can .mdl be inported or converted
(which free software?) into 3d Rad.
Or can you direct me to free models for 3d Rad, I need helecopters, jeeps, tanks, soldiers and a speedboat.

You can convert the files. mdl, in file. X with fragmotion.

I have 3d game studio (extra edition) and it can export stuff in .x format by itself. I use the 3d game studio model editor for bone animation stuff. The extra edition of 3d game studio comes with the ability make bone animated models and it can import and work on any bone animation that already is in the 3drad folder.

Thanks, I also have 3d Game studio A7 extra edition. I am re-learning both Game studio and Rad after about a 4 year lay off! Amazing how much comes back to me but also how some of the basics seem to do anything but that! I will mess with med and see what it can do!
I think both 3DGS and 3DRad are great in there own way, although I think if Rad had a built in world editor I would not bother with game studio.
Do you feel the same as me when I say that I feel that i am creating more of my own game when I make my own world/level than when I click together pre made resourses?
Thanks to the other guys for the models, I will play with some of them.

3DGS was the first engine I ever used. Fragmotion imports its models quite well. Alternatively, the FBX export from the 3DGS model MED imports into 3ds max quite nicely. I can convert any models you upload if you want.

I wouldn't bother with 3dgs tbh, there's so much coding needed that you may aswell go that extra distance and use XNA or just do it from scratch in C++.
