Author Topic: Sailing Project - second attempt [UPDATE: 12/06/14]  (Read 346 times)

« on: June 10, 2014, 04:44:44 AM »
Hey people. I have restarted this project with the help of another forum member, Darkcapilla. He is responsible for the galleon model, and is currently making more for this project. I figured that a new thread was probably better, seeing as this is a complete re-do of the previous project.

This is just the beginning. For more information regarding the direction this project will take, please check out the earlier thread (http://www.3drad.com/forum/index.php?topic=10495.0)

For downloads etc, keep an eye on this topic  :)

UPDATE - 12/06/14

The first playable demo of the project is available for download. (see bottom of this post for the link)

CONTROLS:

  • W,S - Raise/lower sails
  • A,D - Steer left/right
  • 1,2,3,4 - select view
  • MOUSE SCROLL - zoom in/out
  • L MOUSE - fire weapons
  • R MOUSE - aim

NOTES:

There is wind in the demo. Its speed is constant, but its direction changes gradually over time. The white arrow in the HUD surrounded by the red area shows which direction the wind is coming from.

You can't sail directly into the wind, or too close to the wind, if the ship is pointed into the red area (marked in the HUD) the sails will fall flat. However, this doesn't prevent you from tacking through the wind.

To fire your cannons, you have to be looking in the direction you want to shoot.

Feedback is welcome. If you are having trouble running the project, run into an error, or come across something you like/dislike about the project please let us know. If you are having trouble running the project smoothly, because of lag or some similar issue, please include your system specifications when you comment.

Dropbox seems not to be the best idea to show pictures ... you may see them because you are autologged in ... but if someone has to log in first he will not see your pictures.

Another hint: Never use Filenames and Foldernames with blanks (spaces) on the internet if you can avoid it  ... it produces a mess like:  this%20is%20my%20folder/my%20cool%20picture.jpg

This is the link to one of your pictures: Do you really believe this can work?

I have not tried it yet but visually it is looking great...
I have a ques that
is it just the wind that is pushing the ship forward or there are any forces acting on it?
Nothing is I'mPossible!!!
