Author Topic: How come the user_vegetation shader is so dark? - [SOLVED]  (Read 242 times)

« on: December 06, 2013, 03:51:23 AM »
I've been mucking around with trees and other plants in my project, however, whenever I use the vegetation shader from the system shaders addon, it turns out looking unusually dark (see attached pic). Regions that aren't directly facing the sun or another light source end up looking almost black. I was wondering; why does this happen, and how can it be avoided? Also, have other people managed to get any good results with the vegetation shader?

I also need the skinmesh to be affected by changing light levels which, I suppose, rules out using some kind of emissive shader to control how bright the object appears.

Thanks in advance for any advice people can offer,

Regards,

George.

Better if you use the scripted vegetation shader instead... also you can tweak the lightning from the HSL code directly.

Yes, I got fantastic results!  ;D

I think that the vegetation shader is one of the shaders where you need to have a certain type of mapping on the mesh, like user_bumpy_tile makes a mesh really dark if it isn't bumpmapped.

Apart from the emissive version of this shader, I don't really know how to make vegetation meshes lighter.
