Author Topic: Sketchup UV/ bump mapping test  (Read 1358 times)

« on: November 27, 2013, 01:07:31 PM »
I finally figured out how to get a texture to follow a road in google sketchup, more about that later.
I've been trying to use bump mapping to make a futuristic road like in games like Wipeout HD, and like clandestine's killer arcade quest game.
What do you guys think?

If anyone wants to make my texture better, go ahead! ;D

It looks great.

Thanks Dogtorque, I wanted to make sure people knew how to do it, it took me years to figure it out. ;)

Do you have to draw the lines in the first step manually or does the plugin do that? and can you make a banked curve with this? just curious, anyway good tutrorial :)

well you do need to draw the lines in the first step, But then you can copy the first block and so on and so forth.

Yes you can, If you can't figure it out I'll make another tutorial of how to do that.
But basically you make a turn then you rotate one side up a little to make a banked road. :)
I hope that made sense.

Give it a few tries.

just tried the radial bend, works great, but I coundt get the remember uv to work right, could you maybe describe that step a bit further, Heat? Also does the wireframe that you draw in the 1st step have to be exactly like this, I mean with 2 by 6 sections? thanks agian for the tutorial.

Well Right after you applied the texture, did you select the model then press save uv?
And did you turn slicing off?
« Reply #13 on: January 22, 2014, 02:17:47 PM »
It was the slicing, works great now ;D

btw could you post a screenie of banked curve too? I wonder if its possible to make the banking increase towards the middle and then decrease towards the other end and rising at the same time

Road Banking works, but The banking is too bumpy, not sure how to smooth it out.. Any Ideas?
